elit® Vodka honors Pía León as Latin America’s Best Female Chef 2018

BOGOTA, Colombia – Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants is proud to announce Pía León as the 2018 winner of the elit® Vodka Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award, a distinction that acknowledges the career and positive impact of a female chef in the region. León joins a select group of women who have been recognised for their invaluable contribution to gastronomy since the launch of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants in 2013.

León is best known for running the kitchen at Central in Lima, which she led to No.1 in Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants for three consecutive years alongside her husband Virgilio Martínez. In August 2018, she opened Kjolle, her first solo endeavour in the Peruvian capital, where dishes are made according to seasonal ingredients with a very personal touch. There is no set menu, and León concentrates on the use of vegetables, flowers and local herbs in a colourful and welcoming space built to her own design. The name comes from a local yellow flower that grows at a very high altitude.

León said: “The elit® Vodka Latin America’s Best Female Chef award is an important recognition of my work, which is the result of ten years of learning at Central. It is also a reflection of my own project, which shows a passion for translating biodiversity into its own language.”

Frances Gaillard, International Marketing Director for elit® Vodka, said: “Latin America is a region known for its rich cultural heritage, delicious food and beautiful natural landscapes, but what I love the most is the fiery passion of its people. As a brand, we are passionate in every step of elit Vodka’s creation to ensure our signature rolling, dense mouth feel. We are proud to shine the light on Pía León with the elit® Vodka Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award and to lend much-needed support for all talented women chefs around the world, their devotion, hard work and creativity in the culinary arts.”
